Position: Design Engineer
The candidate will report to the design Project Lead but also work closely with the Principal Designer. Working within a young team of designers striving to deliver the most luxurious, elegant and forward thinking products in the market place.
The candidate should have a degree or experience in product design, design / CAD engineering or similar. The role can be adapted to suit the candidate’s skills and experience which should range from 2-8 years in a competitive design or production environment, marine industry experience is not essential.
A practical thinker with very strong problem solving skills are essential. The candidate will have a specific interest in refinement, product improvement and design quality. Helping to introduce the design of new products into production and evolve the direction of the company’s design identity.
Experience of Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD software is necessary.
They will be strong team players, self-motivated and driven to complete tasks on time. The candidate will need to have strong communication skills as they will need to work closely with other departments. This role is an excellent way to learn a breadth of skills across a range of commodities.
The role is built around working within the design team and providing technical solutions to issues that arise as part of new product development - working collaboratively with production, engineering, CAD and naval architecture departments. There will be a bias to support projects going through launch and a need to support production / running changes. As and when needed there will also be design work at the earlier stage of the development process.
·Deliver design solutions for aesthetical, manufacturing or engineering improvements to develop real time solutions.
·Engineer solutions for all aspect of the product (carpentry, metalwork and GRP).
·Devising creative solutions that are to a budget, weight and manufacturing feasibility.
·3D and 2D CAD modelling and surfacing using Siemens NX.
·The ability to sketch, model and visualize solutions to be signed off by the design project leads.
·Manage / coordinate the introduction of new/replacement components (design lead parts) – change and BOM management.
·Be aware of the time constraints driven from lead times and project gateways.
·Assist with research and development projects.
·Act as a consultant / representative to feedback to the wider design team (lessons learnt).
·Support of the Development department’s other design disciplines when required.
